Voting. It’s a freedom we have in the United States of America that not all nations share. It’s a freedom many Americans fought for, including my grandfather and many others in my family. However, this freedom was not given to all when this country was created.

In 1920, white women gained the right to vote. African American men had the right to vote in 1870 but often were not able to vote because of barriers such as the Jim Crow laws. 1965, the Voting Rights Act was passed, prohibiting racial discrimination in voting (15th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution: Voting Rights (1870), 2024).
