The United Church of Christ in Delavan received a Purple Angel Award and is now considered a dementia-friendly church by the Dementia Friendly Community Initiative. This award is a sign for those living with Alzheimer’s and dementia that they will be treated with dignity and respect in the facility, according to a Dementia Friendly Community Initiative news release.

The church earned this designation after the majority of leadership and the congregation received training from the initiative. Thirty-minute training programs were offered to teach participants how to communicate with people with Alzheimer’s or dementia in an effort to avoid conflict and allow those living with either disease to live as independently as possible, according to the release.
